I have always loved mobiles! ;-)
There is something so whimsical and magical about a beautifully designed (and preferably handmade) mobile.
Mobile Art by Clare Youngs contains 35 beautiful (and for the most part, easy to make) mobiles, made in a wide variety of materials including: paper, felted balls, metal, fabrics, wire...(click through to the Amazon page to check out some of the gorgeous interior photos and table of contents too)
I loved most of the designs included, particularly the:
Cherry Blossom Cheer, Sausage Dogs, Twist and Turn Disks and Origami Swans.
The designs would work in a variety of settings: for children's rooms, in living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, offices....some perfect for the outdoors too.
Full color photos throughout, clear, easy to follow directions and diagrams too.
I haven't had the time to make any of these yet, but I definitely plan too.
If you love mobiles and enjoy making unique items for your home or gifts, this is definitely a book to check out! ;-)

i love them too...i think it is why i like wind chimes so much. we have lots of artists here at the jersey shore that make them with shells, sea-glass, sand-dollars...spoons, almost anything you can think of. they can be and are so creative!!!

Geraldine, I clinked over to Amazon to take a quick peek at the book before leaving this comment and I LOVED it! What a delightful book. It's so beautifully laid out. And I especially liked how some of the mobiles were of Origami (which I LOVE).

There are so many mobiles in this book that I really liked Ron. I wasn't able to get any interior photos to share from the book distributor, this time so I thought I'd mention the look inside the book feature at Amazon instead. I agree, it is a beautifully presented book too.

I just read Ron's review - and when I first read yours I thought oh...origami ... I liked reading your review and am intrigued enough to go check it out. Knowing me I won't buy it and create it but what a good idea. I get too scattered with all my other projects to start a new one. I've already committed to learning crocheting from some online youtubes.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about too many projects Sandy, I've got loads of them myself, but that's ok! I like switching from one to another, depending on my time availability and how I'm feeling.
DeleteThis book is a lot more than just origami mobiles, the projects included are made out of all kinds of materials, with some very simple, some complex.

What fun, Geraldine...I love mobiles! My granddaughter and i made one together when she was about ten years old. We drew and colored fish for ours...what fun we had. It was all made out of paper, colored with crayons and hung with string from a paper plate~

I love all things handmade too Ygraine, I'm an avid crafter, in all types of mediums. I've only made a couple of mobiles so far but this book has inspired me to make a lot more.

Excellent review. I've seen this book and it is very interesting. There are a couple of mobiles I'd like to make. Well worth the price.
